From February 26th through 28th, 2025, the 36th German Zeolite Conference (DZT) and the Annual Meeting of the DECHEMA group Adsorption took place at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Organized by DECHEMA e.V., the conference was hosted by the Institute of Separation Science and Technology (TVT) and the Erlangen Center for Interface Research and Catalysis (ECRC).

The conference took place for the third time in Erlangen, after 2001 and 2011, attracting 230 participants from academia and industry from 11 countries (GER, GBR, FRA, AUT, USA, BEL, CZE, GRE, IND, SLO, ESP). Topics covering the entire range from synthesis and characterization to application of porous materials and from basic research to process development were presented and discussed in 6 plenary lectures, 50 short talks and 87 posters. In addition to presenting novel syntheses and novel characterization methods, the focus in Erlangen was set on applications in catalysis, advances in adsorption and energy storage, also in relation to process development and engineering. We thank our plenary speakers:

  • Dr. Desirée Leistenschneider, Universität Jena/D – “Three interfaces and an electron – Cathode Design for Metal-Air Batteries”
  • Dr. Aleksandra Marcinek, CarboTech, Essen/D – “Synthesis-Structure-Performance characteristics of Carbon Molecular Sieves”
  • Prof. Alexander Neimark, Rutgers University, Piscataway, NJ/USA – “Coupling Adsorption and Mechanical Properties of Flexible Nanoporous Materials”
  • Dr. Constanze Neumann, MPI für Kohlenforschung, Mülheim/D – “Catalysis beyond the active site”
  • Prof. Jeffrey Rimer, University of Houston, Houston, TX/USA – “Navigating the Boundaries between Fundamental and Applied Research in Zeolite Catalysis”
  • Prof. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern, MPI für Dynamik komplexer technischer Systeme, Magdeburg/D – “Quantifying and exploiting the connection between adsorption isotherms and characteristic features of breakthrough curves”

Thanks also goes to our sponsors and exhibitors. We particularly thank our Platinum Sponsor CarboTech, our Gold Sponsors Anton Paar and Linde, our Silver Sponsor Grace, the George-Kokotailo Poster Award Sponsor Clariant and the Poster Award Sponsor CWK.

On Wednesday morning, a doctoral workshop was offered, which focused on the characterization of nanoporous materials. This included talks on nanotomography techniques by Benjamin Apeleo-Zubiri, physisorption characterization by Rémy Guillet-Nicolas and solid-state NMR spectroscopy by Jan Blahut.

To cap off a highly sucessful meeting on home ground, we are delighted that two of our doctoral researchers received poster prizes:

  • Johannes Wieczorek for his poster: “Chromatographic process development for polydisperse products.” (authors: J. Wieczorek, M. Supper, J. Domagala, M. Kaspereit)
  • Lukas Sandner for his poster: “Advanced textural characterization by NMR relaxometry.” (authors: L. Sandner, C. Vorndran, M. Thommes)
